Walking Alpujarras

About Walking Alpujarras

An Unforgettable Walking Holiday Experience in Las Alpujarras

Our Mission is to deliver the most professional, varied and enjoyable walking and hiking experiences in the Alpujarras

We offer expertly guided, low impact activity holidays in the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada mountains for small groups, staying in local accommodation. We do our best to protect this breath-taking, unspoiled but fragile wilderness and ask guests to do so too. The development of rural tourism in the area provides economic benefits and encourages an alternative to that of the overdeveloped "costas".

Founders

Richard Hartley and Kiersten Rowland have a long history of working in the mountains of both the Alpujarras itself and also the Sierra Nevada, through their sister company "Spanish Highs Mountain Guides".

They have lived and walked locally in the Alpujarras since 2002 and are passionate about the area, environment, wildlife, people, history, traditions and culture. They aim to do their best to protect the breath-taking, unspoiled but fragile environment while developing rural tourism and thus providing economic benefits for local residents

Their experience includes five expeditions to the Patagonian Icecap and in 2013 were asked to join a Berghaus sponsored expedition to ski volcanoes in Kamchatka, eastern Russia.

We also have Richard's daughter, Emma Hartley bringing her wealth of marketing, administrative and office experience. She'll make sure your holiday is booked correctly and everything runs smoothly. She also makes a grand cup of tea!

What people say...

PLODDERS RAMBLING CLUB

"Thanks very much. We had an awesome trip. The organisation was faultless, the walks were superb and all the guides exceptional. It is the personal touch that makes the difference, meeting us in the bar for drinks, joining in the Irish craic and banter etc."

KERRY KILNER

"It was such a great experience that I plan to tell as many as I can about it. I’ve been reading Driving Over Lemons these past couple of days. It’s such a great portrait of the Alpajurras. Thanks for giving us a wonderful experience."
